Giving Back as a Business

One of my favorite things to do as a small business owner is give back to my community through volunteering my skills and talents. These days, showing you are community-minded is not only the right thing to do, but it’s good for business. It provides publicity and exposure for your brand, and can also help connect you with other “doers” in your area that you can partner with in the future. It’s a win-win!

As a photography studio with a background in marketing and public relations, we often volunteer our photography services to non-profits who otherwise might not be able to afford professional images. We have photographed events, produced head shots and even been a part of advertising campaigns for local non-profits that are doing amazing work in the community. Through this, we have met some amazing people and our brand name recognition has skyrocketed! In fact, we launched August Light Studio on the heals of our First Fridays Show, which benefited refugees abroad and those who have been placed right here in Kansas City. Giving back is a important facet of our business that we’re extremely proud of.

How can you give back to your community through your business? Do you have a skill or product line that you could use to help a non-profit that is serving people in your area? Can you reach out to others in your circle to find out if there is a project you could all work on together? The possibilities are endless!
